The Challenge
A 15-year old patient came to us with a central cornea scar on his left eye. The scar resulted in 20/400 vision in that eye. The patient was an honor student, and his grades had declined because of his vision problem.
The Solution
With the sMap3D™ I was able to fit him into a Europa scleral lens. By the second trial, the patient was seeing 20/40, and we finalized his lenses. The patient was ecstatic, and so was his mother. They both cried in the office. It was the happiest day of my career.
The Results
The patient’s vision and quality of life have dramatically improved. He is now able to see 20/40 in his left eye with the Europa lens and 20/20 in his right eye with a contact lens.
