Dr. Breece was one of the true pioneers of the modern specialty contact lens industry. In addition to being an Optometrist, he held degrees in Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering. He established a large specialty contact lens practice in the Washington D.C. area in the 1980s and in the 1990s developed unique soft lens designs for keratoconus, post-refractive surgery and astigmatism. In 1999, he designed the highly acclaimed Jupiter Scleral Lens, a precursor to Visionary Optics’ Europa Scleral lens, as well as an Ortho-K lens which underwent FDA clinical trials in the early 2000s. Until his untimely death in 2009, he manufactured GP and soft lenses of his own design.
Visionary Optics is pleased to announce the launch of three scholarship opportunities, created to honor the enduring impact of Dr. Rob Breece in the specialty contact lens industry.
